CONSORTIUM MEMBERS
Vedantam Laboratory
The Vedantam laboratory's research concentrates on healthcare-associated infections caused by Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile).
A long-term goal of these efforts is to develop safe and cost-effective non-antibiotic interventions to prevent and treat this intestinal infection.
Multiple genomic and proteomic approaches are used to study C. difficile and the laboratory routinely gleans new clinical information from their multiple surveillance projects.
Viswanathan Laboratory
The Viswanathan laboratory focuses on the mechanisms of pathogenesis of the diarrheal disease pathogens enteropathogenic and enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EPEC and EHEC).
This lab characterized EPEC and EHEC virulence factors (specifically those secreted into host cells) and evaluates their effect on host cell physiology including barrier function, cell death pathways, and effects on innate immune responses.
